One of the most appealing aspects of the Neve 2254 is its straightforward and intuitive feature set, which lets you dial up the perfect setting in an instant. The 2254/R comprises a limiter and compressor that can be used independently or in series. The brickwall-style limiter is ideal for preventing clipping while tracking and for reigning in harsh transients during mixdown; it includes variable recovery times (stepped at 100ms, 200ms, and 800ms), along with an AUTO mode, which adjusts the recovery time according to the source audio.
Additionally, the limiter section features a fixed 5ms default slow attack and an optional fast attack mode, with continuously variable attack speeds between 100ms and 2ms. The 2254/R’s compressor section includes a ratio control with five settings (1.5:1. 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 6:1), a –20dB to +10dB threshold control, gain makeup, and recovery control with 400ms, 800ms, 1.5s, and AUTO settings. Whether you’re looking to subtly shape the dynamics of a track or aggressively smash them for colorful, pumping compression, the AMS Neve 2254/R has you covered.
